Courier/driver

Role and key duties

Courier/drivers use light vans, cars, utilities, motorbikes, scooters and bicycles to pick up and deliver goods, usually over short distances.

Duties may include: driving the vehicle into position for loading or unloading; assisting with loading or unloading to make sure goods are correctly stowed; checking loading documents; planning the shortest delivery route and driving the vehicle to the destination; using a two-way radio, and possibly data screens in some vehicles, to keep in contact with the depot or base; arranging unloading; and obtaining a receipt for goods delivered.

Minimum qualification required

Completion of Year 12 or equivalent (including VCE, VCAL or Certificate II VET sector accreditation).

Recommended qualification

Traineeship in Transport and Distribution.
