Koori court officer
Role and key duties
Koori court officers are responsible for relationship building and liaison with the Koori community.
Duties may include: liaising with the defendent and their family before and after a case is heard; assisting the defendent in accessing support services; and providing information on the court's processes.
Minimum qualification sought
Completion of Year 12 or equivalent (including VCE, VCAL or Certificate II sector accreditation).
Completion of Year 12 or equivalent (VCE, VCAL or Certificate II sector accreditation). Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island (ATSI) community, and ability to sensitively communicate with it. the role requires a high degree ofsensitivity coupled with efficiency and professionalism as the Koori court officer must work with the county Koori judges, elders, accused and their families, legal practitioners and service providers and balance their differing needs.
