Role and key duties
Pathologists use laboratory procedures to identify and diagnose the presence and stages of diseases, and possible sources of infection in body tissues, fluids, secretions and other specimens.
Duties may include: providing aid in the prevention of diseases and disorders by advising patients on diet, exercise, hygiene and general health; prescribing and administering medication and inoculating patients to prevent infectious or contagious diseases; providing pre- and post-natal care; and reporting births, deaths and notifiable diseases to government authorities.
Minimum qualification required
Completion of a Degree in Medicine and postgraduate qualification that may be required for specialisation in the role.
