Nurse/midwife division 1 role

Role and key duties

Registered nurses, division 1 assess, plan, provide and evaluate preventative, curative and rehabilitative care for patients in a wide variety of settings. These include public and private hospitals, residential aged care facilities, the community and home-based services, and industry.

Duties may include: providing physical and technical care and support for patients/clients, providing emotional and psychological support and information to patients/clients and their families; supervising, or carrying out nursing care; and observing, monitoring, assessing, reporting and documenting patient/client conditions and responses to treatment. Midwives provide care and advice to women during pregnancy, labour and birth, and provide post-natal care for women and babies. Nurses and midwives must be authorised to practise by their relevant state or territory registering authority.

Minimum qualification required

Completion of a Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery.

Recommended qualification

Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery.
