Role and key duties

Road workers prepare foundations for new roads.

Duties may include: a range of road and bridge routine maintenance and minor construction works such as preparing sites; constructing footpaths; laying paving stones and new kerbs; digging trenches for drainpipes; and unblocking water, stormwater and sewerage pipes; and applying safe operating procedures and OH&S regulations.

Minimum qualification required

Completion of Year 12 or equivalent (including VCE, VCAL or Certificate II VET sector accreditation).

Recommended qualification

Traineeship in Civil Construction (Bituminous Surfacing).
