Teacher - secondary

Role and key duties

Secondary school teachers teach one or more subjects within the school curriculum to secondary school students.

Duties may include: the preparation of daily lessons and long term teaching programs in accordance with state system guidelines; teaching using a variety of methods including formal lessons, discussions, practical activities, experiments, projects, assignments and excursions, taking into account the differences inindividual students; the use of information technology to assist in lesson preparation, teaching and reporting; setting tests and exams, projects, assignments and homework, marking and correcting these, and sorting the results; evaluating and reporting on the progress of students, and discussing individual performance and problems with both students and parents; and establishing and maintaining good working habits and discipline in classrooms and throughout the school.

Minimum qualification required

Completion of a relevant Degree in Education or a Degree in a subject area related to current curriculum, and a postgraduate Education qualification.
