Mining technician

Role and key duties

Mining technicians assist in the extraction of ore from mine sites.

Duties may include: operating surface or underground mining equipment; monitoring equipment performance and adjusting controls; coordinating earthmoving operations; performing routine maintenance functions; development work on new shafts, drives, airvents, rises, winzes or crib rooms; and completing log sheets.

Minimum qualification required

Completion of Year 12 or equivalent (including VCE, VCAL or Certificate II VET sector accreditation).

Recommended qualification

Traineeship in Surface Coal Operations, Extractive Industries Operations or Metalliferous Mining Operations.
